Madison Preparatory Charges Over Parkview Baptist, 39-15

Coming into this District game, both teams only had one loss under their belts. Both also had no turnovers in the first half and got off to great starts. The Parkview Baptist Eagles fought hard throughout the game, but the Chargers have a strong offense and defense that was just too much for them to handle.

Parkview Baptist came into this game 5-1. The Eagles are a very energetic team and their brotherhood seems to be tight. Isaac Ponder, a Senior running back, had a great game. He made the first touchdown of the night for the Eagles in the first quarter, bringing their score up to 7 while the Chargers already had 14 on the scoreboard. Jeremiah Deverteuil, a Junior running back, made the second touchdown of the night for the Eagles with 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter. They ended up going for the 2 point conversion, and it was good. Andre Haynes, a Senior defensive back, completed the 2 point conversion and it brought the score to 15-14 with the Eagles in the lead for the first time. He also made a big interception in the fourth quarter. Christian Williams, a Senior safety, was also a player that stood out as he made a big interception in the third quarter with 2:12 left to go. Overall, their defense did seem to get better during the second quarter. Even though it got better, it was not enough to stop the Chargers.

They are now 5-2 and take on Glen Oaks next week!

The Madison Prep Chargers had a great night defensively and offensively. They quickly brought the lead to 14-0 in the beginning of the first quarter. They also had a lot of big interceptions throughout the game. Tyrell Raby, a Senior cornerback currently committed to the Memphis Tigers, had a 54 yard touchdown with 30 seconds left in the second quarter. He brought the score to 21-15. Jacarre Cooper, a Senior running back, made the next touchdown with 6:08 left in the third quarter, bringing the score to 27-15. Royon Davis, a Senior defensive back, also made a big interception in the third quarter with 54 second left. Davis also had a pick six last week against the Louisiana State University Laboratory School Cubs. Zeon Chriss, a dual-threat Junior quarterback, also scored a touchdown. At this point, the score was 33-15. The Chargers played their best defense in the third quarter. The fourth quarter continued to have big plays as Brian Chatman, Senior running back, scored the final one for the night. The score was at 39-15 and David Jones, a Sophomore safety, made a big interception to wrap the game up. Roshaad Singleton was also a player who stood out tonight. He is an offensive lineman who had to make a lot of crucial field goals. Despite that not being his regular position, he was always ready to perform.

I spoke with Royon Davis, Senior defensive back for the Chargers, after the game.

What would you say was the biggest key in winning this game? What did you guys do best at and what do you feel like you guys can improve on?

When we first came into the game, our coach was constantly warning us about stopping the run game. We did exactly that and executed it well. We came out with the big W. I think we’re best at making plays.

You guys are 4-1 now. What do you see in the future for the chargers and how do you feel going into the playoffs?

We have to stay focused as a team going into the playoffs so we can go all the way. Go Chargers!

The Chargers play again next week as they will take on West Feliciana!
