West St. John Explodes in 2nd Half to Beat Riverside Academy 56-27

The West St. John Rams (Edgard, LA) took down the Rebels of Riverside Academy (Reserve, LA) tonight by a score of 56-27. With the win, West St. John advances to a 5-3 overall record while Riverside falls to 2-7 on the season.

In a game that was tied 14-14 at halftime, the Rams of West St. John surged in the 3rd quarter, putting up 30 points to Riverside’s 13. The 4th quarter saw West St. John tack on an additional 12 points to put the game firmly out of reach.

The tale of the game was behind West St. John’s electric D’Kyri Jackson. Jackson was all over the field for the Rams, making plays left and right while accounting for 4 touchdowns both through the air and on the ground. Riverside’s defense did not have an answer for Jackson, and inevitably was the difference in the ballgame. Wantrell Williams of West St. John also had a field day rushing the ball against the Rebel defense. Williams accounted for over 100 yards of offense while scoring multiple touchdowns, as well as a pair of 2-point conversions. The Ram defense played a huge roll as well, recovering a Riverside fumble for a touchdown at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, shifting 2nd half momentum in favor of West St. John.

Riverside did some excellent things on offense as well. Both Ahmonte Watkins and Andre Murphy made some incredible plays for the Rebel offense throughout tonight’s game. Both receivers were great though the air, with Murphy exploding for a reception of over 40 yards, and Watkins coming up huge for the Rebels with an incredible scoring grab.

Along with some explosive plays from the duo, credit Riverside’s defense, who came up big on multiple drives, either by forcing some 3-and-outs or by snuffing out many of West St. John’s 4th down conversion attempts. In the end, the Rams juggernaut of an offense proved to be a little too much for Riverside, as West St. John would comfortably secure their 29 point victory.
