Kylin Wheeler is one of the top receivers in Louisiana for the class of 2025. He finished last season with one of, if not the best, stat lines across the state, totaling 59 catches for 1,241 yards and a whopping 18 touchdowns last season. He led the state in touchdowns for his position and he averaged just over 20 yards per reception showcasing his big-play ability and proving himself as one of the most dynamic playmakers that Louisiana has to offer. His season accolades earned him a spot on the Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-State team.
While Wheeler had a video game-like season last year, he is still flying under the radar and getting looked over for the rankings across the state. His blazing speed, recording a 4.37 40-yard dash, and his 4 years of on-field experience are what sets him apart. He has a great understanding of how to win his matchup, whether it is a go route where he uses his speed to just sprint by the defenders or a quick curl route just to get the ball in his hands and then make the magic happen. Rayne has even seen success running a wildcat formation with him in as the quarterback and allowing him to get into open space.
Since his freshman season at Rayne, the Wolves have finished their season at 6-5 twice and 5-6 once his sophomore year. Entering a new district this season provides some new competition but also new opportunities to showcase what Rayne is all about. They have some huge matchups this season and Rayne is excited to go into these games and put up a fight for their fans and everyone watching. State champion St. Thomas More, a Teurlings Catholic team coming off a semifinal loss, and Westgate who lost to undefeated state champion Ruston in the second round last year are all sure to give Rayne some massive competition this year ahead.
Last year an unfortunate first-round matchup with future state champion Opelousas would end their playoff run, but Rayne has their sights set on a playoff run again this season. Wheeler entering his last season knows that football is not over for him after this year and he will continue to elevate as a player during his college career. But it does bring the end of his journey at Rayne to the forefront, and he wants to end his career there leaving a championship legacy behind.
Kylin has recently committed to Nicholls State University. While receiving offers from other Divison-1 schools as well, this is the decision that he has made for himself after the summer.

Here are a few questions from our interview.
Who is your favorite NFL/College player that you try to model your game after?
I would say probably Ja’marr Chase. I know we have two different builds but I like the way he doesn’t try to be too flashy. He just does what he needs to do to get to his routes and his ability to make plays once the ball is in his hands. I feel like I’m that type of player.
What is your favorite thing about playing the Wide Receiver position?
My favorite thing about receiver is I feel we are game changers in a way. I feel I have a big impact on a game when I’m out wide.
I feel there’s nobody who can stop me when I’m on that island.
As a 4-year starter, how has that experienbce benefitted you in developing your skills?
There are no better reps than game reps, so being blessed to be able to start for 4 years helped me develop my skills and help me see what I need work on. That also helps me practice when I can identify what I need to work on for the games.
What are some goals that you have for this season? They can be personal or team goals.
I just want to get our team to the championship. It’s a goal of mine I’ve had for 4 years now.
You guys have started the season off 2-1, what is something that has been working well this season and what’s something the team can improve on?
Finishing the games. We tend to let off the gas after half, but we need to start finishing games when we are up at the half.
So over the past 3 seasons so far, what has been your favorite HS game of your career and what made it your favorite?
I’ll say our game vs. Liberty Magnet, my freshman year. We lost in OT by a field goal but man we went in there as the big underdogs. We were supposed to get bruised up by them but the way we fought to stay in that game showed me the potential we have at Rayne. If we really show up and play our hardest, we can do big things.
What is a big matchup that you are looking forward to this season?
Really our whole new district. It’s going to be a big challenge for us but I really feel we can compete with those guys and we are going to show everybody we can.
