BREAKING NEWS: Woodlawn High School (Baton Rouge, LA) LB Chris Cooper Commits To The Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game

Woodlawn High School (Baton Rouge, LA) linebacker Chris Cooper has committed to play in the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which will take place at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, December 30th.

At 5’11, 200 pounds, Cooper may not be the biggest linebacker, but the Woodlawn standout defender is certainly very athletic and versatile. He can do it all at the linebacker position as he plays well in coverage, has the speed to run sideline to sideline, and can certainly lay the boom in the middle of the defense.

After only playing 2.5 games this year because of injury, he is fully healthy and ready to show off his talents in the upcoming Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game.

“It means a lot for me to play in the All-American Bowl Game because I can showcase my skills and talents to a lot of football scouts that’s going to be watching me, and I can show them I’m a leader also. I’m getting to play against the best of the best players in the country. I can’t wait to play and show everyone who I am.”

Cooper earned his Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game invitation after a strong performance at our offseason Elite Camp held at his high school in the spring.

In only limited action this season, Cooper has shown a lot flashes as he still tallied 11.5 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. The All-District Honorable Mention selection and Man of the Year Award winner has received an offer from Massachusetts Maritime. With a 3.4 GPA, Cooper has also received interest from Tulane and Georgia State.

Playing with 100% intensity is something that he takes seriously as he models his game after one of the greatest linebackers to ever play the game.

“I like Ray Lewis because of how he played the game of football as a linebacker. I model him a lot. I watch his highlights almost everyday and try to understand what makes a great linebacker. I also like how he gives back to the kids teaching them about life and what it takes to be great in anything you do.”
