BREAKING NEWS: Southside High School (Youngsville, LA) WR Wyatt Gibbens Commits To The Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game

Southside High School (Youngsville, LA) wide receiver Wyatt Gibbens has committed to play in the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which will be played at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, December 30th.

After playing sparingly on the JV level and on special teams at the varsity level his first three years, Gibbens waited his turn and took the most of his opportunities his senior season to have a very productive fourth year for the program. This past season, Gibbens was the Sharks’ number one receiver in a run heavy offense as he finished with 550 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

“The end of my junior season, I joined a 7 on 7 team, which helped me big time. I honed in on new skills and gave me confidence I thought I’d never have.”

He models his game after another former Shark that is one of the best wide receivers in college football in LSU’s Malik Nabers. In fact, he plays on the same 7v7 team that Nabers was on.

“He is a superstar player from my area and I played on the 7 on 7 team he played for. He’s a guy that really loves and cares for the game and growing up didn’t have much. His hard work and dedication is unmatched and playmaking skills are super.”

The 6’3, 190 pound receiver is a big target that can catch the deep ball, but he also has the ability to take a short pass and take it to the house with his long strides. What is most impressive about Gibbens is that he can play receiver, return kicks, and is also a great special teams coverage player as well.

Currently, Gibbens has received interest from ULL, Northwestern, and Graceland University. After bursting on the radar this season, he would love to add more college interest with a good performance in the upcoming Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game.

“This Gridiron game is a true blessing and honor. I’ll be able to play my last high school game, which is something that not a lot of people get to do. I am taking this game seriously and I want to dominate and light up the field and make impressive plays any chance I get.”

An interesting fact about Wyatt Gibbens is that he is also a track runner that can run the 200 meters in 21.80. That time helped him win the track meet and go to regionals. This standout two sport athlete would like to become an architect after his playing days are over.
