McKinley High School (Baton Rouge, LA) OL Laquise Dunbar has committed to the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game. He will help with a critically important part of the game: keeping the quarterback upright.

Obviously, that’s every offensive lineman’s job, but that is what Laquise excels at in particular. He’s a very good all around player, but his prowess as a pass blocker is truly impressive. He was the blind side tackle for McKinley this year, and he was always keeping defenders from his quarterback. Usually it was winning a one on one battle, but sometimes he would even pick up two defenders and nail two blocks. His lateral agility and mirroring ability is incredible. His combination of size (6’3″ 267 lbs) and quickness allows him to stay in front of even the fastest edge rushers he faces.

Laquise has had plenty of success throughout this semester even when not playing for McKinley. He performed at the Red Stick Bowl last week, where he gave the best challenge to DL MVP Antonio Cooley at the game. Cooley finished with 3 sacks in the game, but Laquise was able to go toe to toe with him and slow him down. He is also a member of the National Honor Society with a 3.7 GPA. He doesn’t have any offers yet, so that makes him among the hungriest at the camp to earn his shot at the next level.

I plan to work 250% at every Gridiron Bowl practice. I live by the quote: “Success isn’t owned. It’s leased, and rent is due every day.”
