Isaiah McKinney, a safety at Grant High School, has committed to the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game. This bolsters an already impressive roster of defensive backs with an aggressive defender who is always near the ball.
The 6’1″, 190 lb safety features an impressive combination of size, speed, and instinct, giving him the ability to both cover receivers and tackle ball carriers at a very high level. I’ve already talked about his play at length here, but the short and sweet version is this: dude lives by the football. It doesn’t matter if it’s a run or a pass, McKinney is pursuing the ball aggressively at a lightning quick pace, either breaking up the pass, making the tackle, or even intercepting the ball. He boasts a 4.56 40 yard dash and a 4.45 shuttle.
The stats back up this analysis as well, as McKinney balled out this year. He had 63 tackles, 3 TFLs, 4 PBUs, 1 Sack, and 4 INTs on the year. He was always around the ball, and he was rewarded for his play with a 2nd Team All-District nod.
It’s not just football that McKinney excels at, as he has quite a few accomplishments off the field as well. He has a 3.1 GPA, so he is a successful student in the classroom as well. He is also a multi sport athlete, as he went to state for pole vault. The dexterity needed to succeed at that only further shows what he can do on the football field. He has one offer from a JUCO school already, but he’s hungry for more.
