The Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game received some huge news when it was announced that the game has its first Power Four commit to play in this year’s bowl game, and that is Bunkie High School (Bunkie, LA) cornerback and Houston commit Kyle Johnson.
Committed to the Houston Cougars led by head coach Willie Fritz, Johnson is one of the most coveted prospects in the state of Louisiana. According to multiple recruiting sites, the consensus three star prospect is a Top 15 player in the state of Louisiana and is a Top 45 cornerback in the nation. The Panthers’ standout chose the Cougars over other DI schools such as Baylor, Mississippi State, UL, and others.
What separates the 6’0, 175 pound defensive back is not only his blazing 4.4/40 speed, but is his versatility and impact to change a game in all three levels. Last season, the Panthers’ speedster caught 42 passes for 621 yards and 10 touchdowns as a receiver, had 310 kick return yards and two touchdowns on special teams, and pretty much shut down all passes that went his way en route to help leading the Bunkie Panthers to one of their best seasons in school history last year.
Now, that he has already made his college commitment, Kyle Johnson is focused on making his mark this season for a team that has a lot of high expectations. After the season is over, the future Houston Cougar wants to represent the Panthers one more time in this year’s Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game that will be played on Monday, December 30th at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana!
“I think this will be a great atmosphere meeting players from all over. I am looking forward to testing my abilities against other good players also!”
