The Saint Thomas More Cougars punched their ticket to play Lafayette Christian Academy on December 9th with a dominant performance against a very solid E.D. White team that came into this Semi-Final matchup with a 12-1 record. Last year, we saw this same matchup occur in the semi-final round, except that game was played in Thibodeaux and saw E.D. White win 31-21 to punch their ticket to the State Title game.
Tonight, the Cougars got off to a slow start, punting on their first drive and then allowing E.D. White quarterback #9 Ben Guidry to scamper for a 40-yard touchdown on their second offensive play of the game. After that score, the Cougars never looked back and went on to score 38 unanswered points. The passing attack, led by quarterback Sam Altman, looked like a force to be reckoned with. Despite multiple deep passes being called back, Altman was still able to move the ball consistently and score a barrage of points.
The defense was highlighted by #3 Nicholas Beckwith from the safety position. Beckwith had multiple play-saving tackles and pass breakups. He also reeled in an interception that he brought all the way back for a touchdown. #27 Brian Broussard also had an interception on the drive immediately before Beckwith went on to seal the game for the Cougars.
The Cougars will look to defeat Lafayette Christian Academy for a second time this season, with their first matchup coming back in week 10, where the Cougars defeat LCA by a score of 41-34. The game will be played next Friday in the New Orleans Super Dome.
