Southeastern Football Practice Report – Day 25

HAMMOND, La. – With the 2018 season opener just five days away, the Southeastern Louisiana football team held one of its final practices in conjunction with the annual Season Ticket Party Saturday morning at Strawberry Stadium.

Dressed in their game uniforms, the Lions went through game situations versus the scout teams. SLU head coach Frank Scelfo was pleased with how his team handled the day.

“We went through a full pregame today as if it was a game day, then went through a lot of game situations,” Scelfo commented. “It was a good experience for our players and staff heading into game week.”

The Lions had highlights in all facets. On offense, junior Chason Virgil was able to find senior Darren Johnson on a 29-yard catch and run on the first offensive play of the day, setting up a 20-yard field goal by senior Jonathan Tatum. Virgil also connected with junior Juwan Petit-Frere on a 30-yard touchdown pass later in the scrimmage.

Freshman Ferlando Jordan intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards to highlight the defensive effort, while junior Matthew Wright also had a pick. Junior Mike Mason forced a fumble that was recovered by senior Tamarcus Russell. Senior Sean Clavelle was also credited with a sack.

Tatum was perfect on his field goal attempts. The Alexandria, Louisiana native’s long of the day was 50 yards.

The Lions open the 2018 season with a 7 p.m. contest next Thursday at ULM. The game will be televised on ESPN+, the subscription-based arm of ESPN, and will air on the Southeastern Radio Network (KSLU-FM 90.9, Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, WFPR 1400 AM).
