"Changing Lives, Improving Communities"

School Spotlight: Rayville

Rayville High School sits on the I20 corridor between Monroe and Mississippi in the town of Rayville, La. After a 5-6 season with a loss in the first round of the playoffs (first regular winning season since 2017). Former head coach took another job and so the Hornets began their search for a new head coach. Rayville found their new leader in Coach Cedric Goins. Coach Cedric is a High School graduate of Richwood High & College graduate of Grambling State University where he played football and former assistant coach at West Monroe. This is coach Goings second tour at Rayville where he was the offensive coordinator and helped lead the team to a LHSAA Semi-Finals matchup. Under this new leadership, coach Goings has brought in seven new coaches including my friend good James Taylor as Linebacker Coach. The 2022 season looks to be an explosive one for the Hornets. The secondary is probably the strength of the defense while on offense look for some explosive plays by Júnior QB, Kaleb Jackson. Look for the following athletes in 2022 to have a big season: WR Jukoreyun Harris, RB Fredrick Young, OL Deshun Johnson, DE Clay Thompson, CB Zephaniah Elmore, CB Juanterrius Martinez, and CB Braelon Green.

Quarterback Kaleb Jackson is a class of 2024 prospect that has a huge upside. Very athletic and mobile. He is 6’2″ and weighs 195 lbs.

Wide Receiver Jukoreyun Harris is a class of 2023 prospect that can play in the backfield or at wide out. He has impressive speed and agility.

Running Back Fredrick Young is a class of 2023 prospect that plays with a lot of passion. “My late brothers and father are the only things that keep me going hard every rep, long live them.” Fredrick, faced with so much loss, has found a way to overcome and be disruptive on the gridiron.

Lineman Deshun Johnson is a class of 2024 prospect that is very disruptive along the line. Deshun has a great first step and fills gaps.

Defensive End Clay Thompson is a class of 2023 prospect that has good speed off the edge. Clay will also split time on offense this season at Tackle and Tight End.

Cornerback Zephaniah Elmore is a class of 2023 prospect that made the 2021 All-District team. May not be the biggest corner, but plays with a lot of passion and heart. Has great field awareness and hands.

Cornerback Juanterrius Martinez is a class of 2024 prospect that made the All-District team in 2021. Juanterrius is 5’9″ and weighs 145 lbs. He plays bigger than his size and only being a Sophomore in 2021, he has time to grow into an All-State player.

Cornerback Braelon Green is a class of 2024 prospect that transferred from West Monroe. There is a lot excitement around the town of Rayville over this young man.
