The LSU Tigers got some news on Memorial Day as former Louisiana Tech punter Blake Ochsendorf has announced on social media that he is going to play down south in Baton Rouge.
After the Tigers’ spring game, head coach Brian Kelly stated that they wanted to see more out of Peyton Todd in the spring so bringing in Ochsendorf will now make it a competition in the fall for the starting punter job.
Having to replace its punter the last couple of years in Jay Bramblett, the Tigers will now have a new punter this fall and the veteran Ochsendorf has a chance to win the job. The Minnesota native will spend his seventh year of college in Baton Rouge after having a great redshirt senior campaign at Louisiana Tech. Last season, Ochsendorf led Conference USA and was ranked top 20 in the country in yards per punt with 45.7 yards. He also led the Conference USA with 17 punts of 50 or more yards this past season and had 17 punts of 50+ yards, which was the most by a LA Tech player in over a decade.
This is the second signing after the spring at a position of need as the defensive line also got a commitment from Grand Valley State defensive lineman Jay’Vair Suggs.
