Diesel Solari, Corey Broussard Lead Cecilia Bulldogs To First State Championship Appearance Since 1995 With 55-18 Victory Over Northwest

Not even multiple rain and lightning delays can slow down Cecilia’s dynamic duo in Diesel Solari and Corey Broussard. The quarterback/running duo have been tough to handle for opposing teams all year long, and last night proved to be more of the same as Northwest had trouble stopping the Bulldogs’ fast paced balanced offensive attack.

Solari, who is certainly making his case to be Gridiron Football’s Player of the Year, had another eye popping outing and did so on both sides of the football. Quarterbacking and leading this team, Solari completed 9 of 10 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown strike to Ellis Stewart while also running for 85 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. To top it off, he added a 55 yard interception return.

Solari led the way, but the Bulldogs also leaned heavily on their bell cow Corey Broussard. After winning the Week 12 Gridiron Football Player of the Week Award, Broussard had another Player of the Week type performance with 251 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries.

Northwest made a lot of plays in the first half as well including two rushing touchdowns by this week’s Gridiron Football Player of the Week Ja’Vain Reese, but the Raiders just could not keep up with the Bulldogs.

The game was delayed multiple times including a very lengthy delay at halftime, but it did not affect Cecilia, who build on their 42-18 lead at the break with two more scores in the second half to put the game on ice.

It was one impressive and surprising run by Chris Edwards’ squad, who defeated higher seeds Franklin Parish, Wossman, and Assumption to get to this point, but midnight struck for Cinderella.

For head coach Dennis Skains and the Bulldogs, this was obviously a huge win for the program as Cecilia will be returning back to the Superdome for the first time since 1995. The number two seeded Bulldogs will face off against a very familiar opponent in the Opelousas Tigers. Both teams have played each other earlier this year with the Bulldogs winning a close one 25-22, and now, both will look to meet again in the Superdome on Friday, December 8th for the Division II (Non-Select) State Championship.
