Diamond in the Rough: Cameron Davis

It seems as though being a beast on the gridiron and brilliant in the classroom is the new trend. Evangel Christian Academy’s Cameron Davis is the embodiment of an athletic intellect. Cameron stands 6’2” and weighs 310. He benches 315 and squats 475. The offensive left guard maintains an amazing 3.8 gpa.

When I asked Davis why he plays football, his answer was “The reason I play football is because it is fun to me. I enjoy going out every Friday night and being able to play a game that I love. I’ve been playing football since I was about 10 years old”. Cameron’s favorite football player is Cam Newton; he admires Newton’s leadership. I asked Davis his college plans and his response was “For college I’m not sure what school I would like to attend but I want to study criminal justice”.

I asked Cameron what are his future goals and he answered, “My future goal is to be successful at a young age so I will be able to enjoy life and experience lots of things while I’m young. My goal for this season is to be the best I can be on and off the field. Another goal for me is to be an all-state guard”. Truly a young man with mature goals! Cameron mentioned that before every game his technique of personal motivation is telling himself that this is going to be his best game.

Davis has also received some awards for playing the sport he loves. He made honorable mention his freshman year. With more time to grow and improve, he made 1st team all-district his sophomore year. Cameron opened up and shared with us the fact that he’s dedicating this season to his dad Lionel Davis and his reasoning for this. “I dedicate this season to my dad because my dad has been on dialysis for seven years, and in those seven years he has always supported me regardless of how he felt on his treatment days. The reason I dedicate this season to him is because he has always been there no matter how he felt and that showed me to keep pushing every day”. As we concluded the interview, Cameron stated “I would like to thank God, my dad, coaches, and teammates for this opportunity because without them none of this would be possible”.

I have had the pleasure of interviewing yet another talented and humble young man and I really enjoyed it. Continue giving your dad something to look forward to and making him proud. Good luck with the rest of your season, Cameron!
