Slidell High School (Slidell, LA) defensive back Dwayne Mills has committed to play in the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which will be played at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, December 30th. Mills is a three year starter at defensive back for the Tigers and has been a versatile playmaker over his high school career. Throughout his prep career, the three time All-District selection has played cornerback, safety, and even some kick returner and some punt returner.
Over the last couple of seasons, he has been a two time All-District Honorable Mention selection, a 1st Team All-District defensive back selection, Mr. Sophomore on defense in 2021, and a Defense Flex Coaches Award winner in 2022. Despite playing on the defensive side of the football, Mills is a playmaker and one of the fastest players that will be showcasing his talents at the Bowl Game as he has 4.45/40 speed. The 6’0, 160 pound defensive back has the ability to turn defense into offense as he not only has the ability to make a play on the ball, but he can make offenses pay by making house calls when he has the ball in his hands.

Right now, the crafty ballhawk has received interest from ULL, North Texas, Louisiana Christian, Christian Community College of Lafayette, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Arkansas Monticello, Northern Michigan, and Eastern Kentucky. Mills models his playing style after a Louisiana legend in NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed.
“Training with a guy named Kenny (beastathleticperformance), he watched my film and asked me have I ever watched Ed Reed’s film. After reviewing video, I admired the awareness he has and how much he messes around quarterback’s reads with their receivers.”

One of the goals heading into the season for Mills was that he wanted to play in the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game and now, he will get the chance at the end of the year!
“It means a lot playing in the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game playing alongside some of the best talented athletes. It was one of my personal goals to accomplish my senior year. I’m very blessed and thankful to get this opportunity to participate.”

Mills went on to add that he is an introvert off the field, but he feels comfortable in communicating and working with his teammates on the field. When Dwayne Mills goes to college, he wants to get involved in real estate as he enjoys watching shows where people flip houses making a profit. He says that he is good with numbers and can see himself doing that as a career if he doesn’t make it to the NFL.
