Scotlandville High School (Baton Rouge, LA) defensive end Tyler Knighten has committed to play in the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which will be played at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, December 30th. The Baton Rouge native has been a tough outing for offensive tackles to go up against the long, athletic 6’4, 230 pound defensive end.
Through two years of starting action, Knighten was a very productive player for Ryan Cook’s squad with 124 tackles, 11 sacks, 35 TFLS, two force fumbles, a fumble recovery, and even scored on a defensive touchdown. The 2nd Team All-District selection has a lot of potential as his combination of speed and length has given him college interest from the likes of ULL, Louisiana Christian, and NSU. Not only is he long, quick, and extremely athletic, but he is very strong as well. In the weight room, he can bench press 315 pounds, squat 500 pounds, and can deadlift 475 pounds. Becoming the total package at defensive end is something that Knighten aspires to be as he models his game after Dallas Cowboys’ star Micah Parsons.
The three sport athlete will have one more chance to show off his talents and represent the Scotlandville program just right down the road at Memorial Stadium next week in front of college coaches.
“It’s a great opportunity to showcase my talents because I’ve always been an underdog because of my size and now, I have a chance to to show them what I am capable of.”
