The Southeastern Lions Take on The LSU Tigers 31-0

The Southeastern Lions traveled to Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday to play against the LSU Tigers in Tiger Stadium the final score was  31-0, which hasn’t happened since the year 1949. Prior to this game they played against the University of Louisiana Monroe and came very close to a victory as the score was 34-31. The Lions competed well, but they just weren’t able to pull off the victory this weekend. With the defense and offense working together trying to gain the victory, they just were not able to pull through. The Lions did well competing against the Tigers and never backed down from their opponent. Despite their loss against LSU, the Lions had players that stood out during the game on both defense and offense.

Quarterback Chason Virgil led the team in passing yards with a total of 189 yards against the Tigers and completed 23 passes along with an interception. Lorenzo Nunez, who is also one of SLU’s quarterbacks, led the team in rushing with 64 total yards and 11 carries. Both these two young talents are in their junior seasons. Juniors Devonte Williams and JoMari Becnel helped contribute to those yards along with senior Darren Johnson and freshman Taron Jones.

SLU had a total of 189 yards, and of those 189 yards junior Juwan Petit-Frere made up 60 of them. Petit-Frere finished the game with a total of five completed catches. Junior Matthew Wright also had a good game leading the team with six solo tackles. Linebacker Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund had a big play as he sacked LSU’s quarterback Joe Burrow during the second quarter of the game. Along with his teammate Mike Manson who also earned a sack on the field with two solo tackles. Xavier Lewis, the transfer from LSU, also had 4 solo tackles with a punt return.

The Lions finished on top with 18 first downs.  Southeastern will have their home opener against Central Arkansas next Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be held at Strawberry Stadium and there will be plenty of entertainment during half time and the Lions ask that all family, friends and other supporters come out to watch their favorite team play and hopefully come out with a victory.
