Scelfo Part of Alma Mater’s Hall of Fame Class

HAMMOND, La. – On the eve of his first game on the Strawberry Stadium sidelines, Southeastern Louisiana head football coach Frank Scelfo will be inducted to the New Iberia Senior High School Athletics Hall of Fame in conjunction with the school’s home game versus Westgate High School.

Scelfo was a standout at NISH in both football and baseball. After starring at linebacker on the gridiron and catcher on the diamond for the Yellow Jackets, Sceflo went to ULM to play both sports. He eventually settled on baseball, earning the school’s Athlete of the Year award as a senior.

“I was honored to receive this recognition from my alma mater,” Scelfo said. “Some of my fondest memories come from my time at New Iberia and to be included in the Hall of Fame is humbling and special for me.”

Scelfo’s Lions will open their home and Southland Conference schedule on Saturday, hosting defending league champion Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.

Saturday is Faculty and Staff, Family and Band Day in Hammond, America. Southeastern faculty and staff will receive two free tickets with the presentation of their University I.D. at the ticket office prior to game day or ticket booth on game day. For Family Day registration, visit https://www2.southeastern.edu/external/event_registration/familyday.

Local high school band and spirit members will be present for the Spirit of the Southland’s halftime show.  Also, fans will have the opportunity to stop by Hammond’s Helm Paint location to get a free color-changing cup for free drinks all season.

The SLU-UCA game will be televised on ESPN+ and via the WatchESPN.com app. The game can also be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (KSLU-FM (90.9), Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and WFPR 1400 AM).
