Diamond in the Rough: Carrington McClinton, Washington-Marion High School

Carrington McClinton is a senior from Lake Charles, LA. He attends Washington-Marion High School in Lake Charles, and is a very gifted athlete as he plays both running back and safety positions on the field. With his high football IQ, Carrington is able to adjust to any situation on the field. He is a very competitive player and loves to have fun. Since the season started he already has 238 rushing yards and plans to increase that number as the season goes on. Throughout his high school career he has had a total of 1593 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Carrington has received multiple D1 college offers from schools like Southeastern Louisiana University, Tulane University,  and Grambling State University just to name a few.

At what age did you start playing football?

I started playing football when I was 8 years old. I played for a local rec team called the raiders.

 

What sparked your interest in football?

My brothers, all of my brothers played football and we all started playing around the same age. Football has really been a tradition in my home.

 

Did you play any other sports?

I played basketball in middle school, and once I got to high school I ran track for a while and then I started boxing.

 

Can you tell me about some of your biggest accomplishments?

Some of my biggest accomplishments are, I tying the touchdown record with Channing Jenkins with 5 touch downs. I also rushed for 310 yards in one game.

 

What are some of your strengths on the field?

My strength on the field is my football IQ, most of everything I do out there just comes naturally.

 

Who keeps you motivated?

My family keeps me motivated all the time. Most of everything I do is for them. My family shows me a lot of support and they believe that I can make in the future.

 

What would your teammates say about you?

They would say that I am hardworking and I love to have fun.

 

Who do you model your game play after?

On the defensive side Eric Reed and on the offensive side Reggie Bush, these two players show a lot of passion for the game and aggression. They work hard and that’s what I like to do.

 

What would college coaches be most impressed about with you?

They would be impressed with my work ethic and my abilities on the field. I am a fast learner and I use that to my advantage.
