We continue our Rising Star series by covering our final MVP from the Junior High Bowl Game Series, the Defensive MVP of the victorious Team Central, Jecaryous Norman. He had 1.5 sacks on that day, the most of anybody on any of the three teams. On a defensive line with a bunch of heavy hitters, he managed to stand out and truly make his presence felt.
The thing that stands out the most about Jacaryous is his quickness. His first step is a lightning strike, and he blows by the opposing offensive lineman before they even realize what happened. He’s so fast that even when it was a running back trying to block him, he would still be too quick for them to do anything about it. It’s not like he couldn’t bulldoze them either: he’s 5’8 170, so he’ll need to grow a bit before playing defensive end at the high school level, but his size was more than enough to supplement his speed and make him a problem at the bowl game. This dude was the complete package out there, overpowering and outrunning anybody who tried to stand between him and the quarterback.
Jecaryous said it himself in a way better than any way I could describe it. In his own words, “Can’t nobody block me.”

What got you into football in the first place?
My dad. He would always have it on the TV, and from that I just started liking it.
What is your biggest strength on the field?
I’m best as a defensive end because I like to sack the quarterback.
In what ways have you grown the most as a player since you started playing?
I feel like I have grown more as a leader, and I’m more in shape.
What are your thoughts on the bowl game and winning Defensive MVP for the winning team?
I really enjoyed the whole weekend. I love meeting new people. When I won MVP, I was so happy because it was my goal the whole weekend.
What’s your favorite football game that you’ve played in? What stood out about that game?
My favorite game is the Gridiron Bowl Game, because it is the hardest game that I have played in so far.
What college or NFL player do you like to model your game after?
I would say Aaron Donald. I like the way he comes off the ball, and how he uses his hands to get past blockers.
What are you looking to improve on the most as you start playing high school football?
Using my hands more.
What teams do you root for when you watch sports?
I like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
What kind of hobbies do you have outside of playing sports?
I like playing the NCAA Football games, or to watch old football games.
What do you want to do when your playing days are over?
I want to be a head coach.
Why should fans be keeping their eyes on you as a rising star in Louisiana High School Football?
I’m going to bring the energy every play.
