Jordan Matthews, Class of 2023 Cornerback, Woodlawn High School (BR, LA)

Jordan Matthews is a class of 2023 cornerback at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Matthews stands at 6’2 175 pounds, which is prototypical size for defensive backs at major universities and in the NFL. Jordan is a legit 4.4 40-yard dash. Jordan has a max bench of 275, squats 365 and cleans Jordan excels in man coverage but is also very willing to get physical against the run and short passes. While he is a great athlete Matthews also excels in the classroom maintaining a 4.6 GPA to go along with a 21 ACT score.

How long have you been playing football and What do you love about football?

J: I have been playing football since I was 7 years old. The thing I love about football is getting to fly around hitting people. 

What has football taught you about yourself?

J: Football has taught me that you have to work hard for everything you want in life and nothing will come easy. 

Who are your biggest motivators?

J: My dad has been motivating since I was a little boy and my mom works hard on everything she does to ensure I’m the best young man I can be. 

Do you play any other sports? 

J: I run track, I run the 200, 400, 4×2, and the 4×4. 

What is your biggest strength on the football field?

J: My football IQ is my biggest strength on the field.

What part of your game do you want to improve on in your junior year?

J: I don’t have a specific skill I want to get better at, I feel like all areas of my game need improvement.

What should college coaches know about you?

J: That I’m smart and will pick up on things quickly, I love man coverage and I’m a dawg.

What are some of your goals, when it comes to your overall football career? 

J: To make it to the NFL, to play for a major Power 5 university and to be great at what I do and put my best foot forward. 

Is there any player college or professional that you model your game after?

J: Jalen Ramsey (NFL) and Derek Stingley Jr. (college) 

What are some of your goals this season team wise and personally? 

J: My team goal is to win a state championship and personally I want to be first team all-state and ranked nationally at cornerback.
