Diamond In The Rough: Markel Norris

Markel Norris is a class of 2022 5’8″ 160 pound cornerback out of General Trass High School in Lake Providence, Louisiana. He is a mulitpurpose player who has a crafty speed. Norris can play multiple positions and you can always depend on him to give his all on the field. He is also apart of the track team and FCA at General Trass, and is very active in his community.

At what age did you begin playing football and what motivated you to play this sport?

I started playing football around the age of six or seven. Growing up, playing sports kept a lot of people out of trouble so I wanted to be apart of it. I have a lot of family members that played football as well.

What’s your favorite thing about your position?

I love that I get to make plays and score touchdowns.

What are some goals you have for next season?

I would like to be first team all-district and have an 1,000 yard season. I also want to be all-state and win a state championship.

What’s been the highlight of your football career?

My sophomore season was the highlight. I proved a lot of people wrong on the field as some doubted my skills.

What type of things do you do in your offseason to keep yourself in shape?

I run and lift weights. I also do position drills

Have you always played this position or did you play anything else?

I was a quarterback and safety in junior high. In high school, I player corner, running back and receiver.

What has football taught you about life?

Football has taught me to never give up when things get hard. It’s also taught me to push myself even when things get hard. Its help me become a better man.

What’s your favorite thing about playing football in Louisiana?

The competition is my favorite thing.

What would you tell younger players who want to play high school football one day?

I would tell them to work hard and stay out of trouble. They also should ask a lot of questions.

Do you have a favorite NFL or College Athlete?

Tyrann Mathieu. I would try to model my play style after Tre Siggers from The University of North Texas.

What would you bring to a college team?

I would bring skills and a great attitude.

What would you say are some of your strengths?

My leadership and being a role model to younger players. I also help out in the community.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself playing college football.

How do you balance school work and football?

I have a daily schedule and my time planned out.

Three words to describe yourself are?

Respectful, talented, and hardworking.

How do you prepare for an upcoming game?

I watch film and scout my opponents to see their weaknesses.

What other activities are you involved in besides sports?

I am in FCA and I love to ride bikes.

What things are you looking for most in a football program?

Good administration and coaches. I also want some hardworking teammates.
