D.I.T.R: Zayvian Lowery – DT

Zayvian Lowery is a defensive lineman at West Point High School, listed at 6’3 1/2″ 285 pounds. He is a fierce lineman who is a problem for anyone lined up against him. He excels at using his power and size to his advantage, often ending up in the backfield. While Lowery is always one of the best on the football field, he is also one of the best in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA. I had the opportunity to talk to Zayvian about his football career thus far, as well as his plans for the future:

Q: Tell me about yourself, where did you grow up?

I grew up in West Point, Mississippi. Ever since I was a small kid I was fascinated with football and sports. I always knew it would be what I wanted to do. I began playing football at the peewee level when I was about six years old.

Q: Do you play any sports other than football?

I am on the track team competing in the throws, as well as the powerlifting team.

Q: What is your favorite part about playing the position of defensive line?

My favorite part about playing defensive line is running across players just as good as you, and you are perfecting your craft even more, seeing what moves work on the offensive lineman, what you need to change in your game or get better at.

Q: Opposite of that, what is one of the most challenging aspects about playing defensive line?

Coming across a good offensive lineman. One that can compete every down for an entire game.

Q: Is there a football player you look up to on, whether at the collegiate or professional level at your position?

Aaron Donald, without a doubt. I grew up watching all of his film, mimicking his game. The way he manages double teams and even triple teams is something to strive for. He is the best there is.

Q: What strengths do you believe you have, that can make you an impact athlete at the next level?

I have a very strong bench press, and I use that on the field to my advantage. I am able to get my hands on the offensive lineman quickly, then drive him into the backfield.

Q: How would your teammates describe you?

As a leader. I use every opportunity to become a better player. Whether it is in the weight room or at practice, I give all my effort 100% of the time.

Q: What are you looking forward to this upcoming season, any specific goals for you?

This upcoming season I would like to get Defensive Player of the Year for the state of Mississippi. In order to do that I would like to get in the double digits for sacks next year.

Q: What Motivates you to get better as a football player?

What motivates me to get better as a football player is becoming the one percent that makes it to the collegiate level and on to professional level. It drives me everyday to get better at my game to become one of the best.

Zayvian Lowery is a problem for any offense he goes up against. His power and build is already next level. Lowery uses his strength to easily shed off blockers, causing havoc in the backfield. This outstanding athlete has one season left at West Point High School, as his is in the class of 2024. Lowery already has Power 5, Division I interest, with teams like Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, etc. Expect this player to become a household name in future years, as he is already a force to be reckoned with in Mississippi high school football.
