The Brusly Panthers were able to get a crucial round 1 playoff victory against South Beauregard. With tonight’s 49-29 win, the Panthers now move to 8-3 on their season with hopes to continue to go deeper in the playoffs. On the other hand, South Beauregard’s season ends with a 6-5 record.
Tonight’s performance was all in favor of the Panthers in every aspect of the game. They were hindered by some penalties, but put out an impressive home performance in this playoff outing. The Brusly Panthers now look to face Franklin Parish in their round 2 game, which will be a big game throughout the division.
The game started with two three-and-outs for both teams, as it looked to be a defensive type of game early in the first. However, the Panthers got the ball back and broke off a huge run from RB, Austin Young to put the Panthers up early in the 1st. This was followed by another three-and-out and the Panthers got the ball back and scored again, this time, a run from QB, Josiah Hogan.
On the next drive for South Beauregard, QB, Christian Wold found WR, Cy Barrow streaking wide open for the TD to bring the Knights within 8. However, the Panthers did not let that phase them and continued their momentum as they scored immediately after with a TD reception from Robdrick Covington.
After a TD from Ty’rin Stewart to put the Panthers up 28-7, Austin Young ran for his 2nd TD of the game with 3:10 before half to help the Panthers extend their lead to 28. By this point, all of the momentum favored Brusly. That said, the Knights began to start a mini run of their own after this.
This rushing TD from Christian Wold was able to give the Knights that spark of momentum that they needed going into to halftime. They were able to keep that momentum going directly out of halftime with another TD. This time, it was Wold with the pass to Kade Jackson, who played great, despite the loss.
The Knights came out and scored right out of halftime. This was the last spark of their momentum though, as Brusly went on to score back to back, making the score 49-21 and virtually ending the game. They were able to do this primarily to their defense getting multiple stops consistently and being able to halt the Knights momentum.
Some key players that stood out for the Panthers were QB, Josiah Hogan, RB Austin Young, RB, Patrick Gales, and WR Ty’Rin Stewart. As for the Knights, QB, Christian Wold and WR, Kade Jackson were standouts.
After the game, I was able to talk to Coach Schooler
“I think we really played hard, got out to a good start, on both sides of the ball. Got some things there in the middle, we got to clean up. End of the first half, let them get one at the end, trying to steal possession right there. All in all, a good football game in all three phases and really did a good job in special teams.”
Coach Schooler when asked how he thought his team played tonight
“The same thing it’s been all year long. It’s about us and figure out a way to go 1-0. You know, we play for each other and they did that tonight. This group of guys right here they’ve worked hard together all off-season, a team that was three and seven last year and turned around and I think we’re nine and two now. And you heard me tell them, we haven’t played our best game yet.”
Coach Schooler when asked what was the mentality coming into tonight’s game
“Hopefully see us clean some of the penalties up and get rid of some of that, but we did a good job protecting the football tonight. Thought we had a chance to force a couple of turnovers in there and we didn’t, so we’ll get those things corrected. We’ll see a team that’s excited about playing football next weekend. And I’m sure Franklin Parish should be excited too.”
Coach Schooler when asked what we can expect to see next week
