The Westminster Christian Academy (Opelousas) Crusaders are an emerging program that won a playoff game last year and improved their record even more at 7-3 this season while hosting a playoff game this season.
The Crusaders have been explosive on offense averaging 35 points per game. The top leading rusher and bell cow for Westminster Christian Academy has committed to play in the 2024 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, and that is Michael Cunningham.
At 6’0, 200 pounds, Cunningham has a little bit of everything including impressive vision, patience, strength, and explosiveness that makes him standout as a running back. After making 1st Team All-District and All-Parish as a junior, Cunningham has followed it up with a nice senior season rushing for 1,138 yards and 11 touchdowns averaging six yards per carry.
Cunningham is not only a fantastic football player, but he is a great athlete also participating in basketball, soccer, and track and field.
With a 3.5 GPA, Michael Cunningham plans to attend Northwestern State to major in business where he also hopes to continue his football career. He will get one more opportunity to represent WCA at the 2024 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, which is played on Monday, December 30th at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
“I would say I’m excited to play in the bowl game this year. I love competing. I always love an extra opportunity to show what I can do and I am super excited to meet new coaches who can teach me and possibly meet new friends as well. I would like to play the full game to the best of my abilities and pray not to get hurt and show anyone who is watching what I can do on the field.”
