CHEF (Baton Rouge, LA) WR Kade Whitehead has committed to the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game, and he will make a big push to be one of the kick and punt returners for whichever team he is on.
Kade is a slot receiver primarily, and that will likely be his position at the next level (he’s only 5’8″ 162 lbs), but his ability to return kicks is his most impressive facet as a player. He finished the season with 628 receiving yards and 611 return yards with 9 total touchdowns, multiple of which were from returns. He’s a truly elite return man, where he regularly trounces his competition, evading the first 3 or 4 defenders before anybody gets a hand on him. He’s very fast (4.4 40), but he’s also especially twitchy. His change of direction and acceleration skills are absolutely incredible. He is simply so good at making people miss.
That being said, he is quite the capable wide receiver too. The change of direction ability translates to him being a solid route runner, and he seems to have pretty good hands as well. And of course, once he has the ball in his hands, he is nearly unstoppable. He already has plenty of offers from smaller schools, but he is looking for the opportunity on this stage to make his mark and seize that moment.
I’m extremely blessed to have an opportunity to be a part of something great like this. At the end of the day, I just need to go out there and ball out. I’m hoping that, with the great competition I’ll be against, that I can put my name out there and show more coaches what I’m capable of.
