St. Mary’s Defeats Holy Savior Menard 26-13

The St. Mary’s Tigers improve to 3-0 to start the season thanks to a great defensive performance in a 26-13 win over Holy Savior Menard as defenders Ethan Busby and Ben Bienvenu each had pick sixes give the Tigers a 26-7 lead going into halftime.

The Tigers also added touchdown from their quarterback Mixon Bankston, who scored one touchdown on the ground and found Busby for a 26 yard scoring strike for the other. Bankston finished with 117 yards passing and 40 yards rushing.

Drake Griffin also played his part as a two-way starter for the Tigers rushing for 69 yards while also leading the team in tackles with 15.

The Eagles added a touchdown late, but by that time, the game was already at hand. St. Mary’s moves on to 3-0 and extends their regular season winning streak to 11 dating back to last year.

Head Coach Aaron York and the St. Mary’s Tigers will search for a 4-0 start as they will host DeQuincy on Thursday.

For the Holy Savior Menard Eagles under new head coach David Perkins, they will fall to 1-2 to start the season and will look to even their record at .500 when they make the travel to Sacred Heart on Friday.
