Southern University Defeats Jackson State 40-34

The Southern University Jaguars took on Jackson State after winning 6 or their last seven games. They were able to continue this by pulling off another win over the Jackson State with another incredible performance by quarterback Ladarius Skelton.

The first half of the game the Tiger put points on the board before Jaguars with a field goal by Adrian Salazar. The Jaguars were able to respond with a successful pass from Skelton to Hunter Register which was nothing new this season. This resulted in 6-yard touchdown and a good field goal by Fontenot leaving the score 7-3, Southern. It was until the end of the first quarter that the Tigers were able to score a touchdown with a short pass from Jalon Jones to Bowie and a field goal kicked by Adrian Salazar.

Barajas went for a 40-yard field goal early in the second quarter that was good and put the Jaguars neck and neck with the Tigers again. Then we got to see Ladarius Skelton show his athleticism as ran 29 yards to score another touchdown for Southern. Jackson’s offense followed with a touchdown of their own shortly after. Jones connected with Terrell Kennedy for a 23-yard pass and then a minute later there was another Tiger touchdown pass of 34 yards to Ra’Meik Wallace.

Halfway through the third quarter the Jaguars scored off a safety and just after that there was a 22-yard run by Skelton. After the two points from the safety and the touchdown the score was 26-24 with 4:40 in the quarter. The Tigers were able to snatch a one point lead when Zach Gleaton kicked a 25-yard field goal but this did not last long. With a minute and twenty seconds left Brandon Hinton came in with an electrifying kickoff return of 87 yards for yet another Jaguar touchdown. Skelton was also able to score off a quick 7-yard run halfway through the fourth quarter making the score 40-27, Southern. Jackson State was able to score one more time with another pass to Wallace from Jones but it was not enough to pull off the win. The final score was 40-34 with another win under the Southern University Jaguar’s belt.
