School Spotlight: Wakeland High School (Frisco, TX)

Wakeland High School is a 5A classification by the University Interscholastic League. The school is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in a suburb called Frisco, Texas. It opened in 2006, fast forward to today, they have 13 state championships between all their sports. The team shares three football stadiums with the rest of their school district. They play at The Star, Toyota Stadium, and Kuykendall Stadium. The team is coming off a season in which they made it to the second round of the playoffs. The goal for the Wolverines this season is simple… Make a big playoff run. The team has made it to the playoffs ten straight seasons. This year, they have a big senior group that is hungry to not only win district games, but to win playoff games.

Coach Chandler Isom is entering his first season as the Head Coach for Wakeland High School. He has always been coaching in the Frisco ISD district. Previously, he was the Offensive Coordinator for the past seven years before being promoted the Head Coach recently. The Defensive Coordinators that have coached some of the best defenses for the Wolverines are Coaches Terry Bolton and Mark Oglesbee. “I am an offensive guy, but I understand at the end of the day, defenses win championships”- Coach Isom. The offensive staff is led by Offensive Coordinator Jim Howard. “They do a great job working together”-Coach Isom. Something about the staff is they always find a way for something to happen at the end of the day. A very talented staff that newly promoted Head Coach Isom is very high on.

Here are some of the returners for the Wolverines this upcoming season.

Brennan Myer is a 6’1 195 pound quarterback for Wakeland. He is coming off a First Team All-District for the quarterback position this past season. He will be a three year starter for the football team. The quarterback ended up throwing for 39 touchdowns while only ending with 4 interceptions his Junior season. As one of the leaders on this football team, he is looking to lead the offense to another playoff season for the Wolverines.

Donovan Woolen is a 6’3 195 pound athlete entering his Senior season for the Wolverines. He is a key piece for the team playing both receiver and defensive back. A prospect with great size and speed, he can almost do it all when he is on the field. A kid that flies all over the field disrupting anything in his path on the defense. He currently holds offers from Navy, Army, Air Force, and others.

Ashdyn Kahouch is a 5’10 170 pound athlete that is a major red zone target for the offense. He is coming off his junior season with 14 touchdown grabs with a kick off return to the end zone as well. A very shifty prospect with great hands and plays almost like NFL slot receiver Cole Beasley. When you thought that was enough, he also plays cornerback for the team. The multi-sport athlete is looking to turn some heads this upcoming fall as he will be an important piece for the team.

Tristan Lawyer is a 6’4 215 pound linebacker for this loaded group on the defense. The Class of 2025 prospect broke out onto the scene this past season. He finished with 32 total tackles and 2 sacks for the defense. He will be the middle linebacker and tight end for the Wolverines this upcoming fall.

Cooper Snyder is a 6’1 ½ 190 pound player that also plays both sides of the football for the Wolverines. He is a fast running back that has both the homerun speed and the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. “He will be our work horse for this upcoming season”- Coach Isom. He is entering his Senior year looking to break out and help lead the team to the playoffs once again.
