Coach Daren Walker

Talking to Coach Walker, the pillars of this team are toughness, work ethic, and character. Players need to be physically and mentally tough to play at the highest classification of Texas high school football. In order to be a Cougar, one needs to have a great work ethic and character on and off the field. There are different terms for character for this team every year but the main goal stays the same with having a great character on and off the field.

On offense, the Cougars like to run 10 personnel (1 running back and 4 wide receivers) on the field. They also like to switch it up with their personnel when they run a 2×2 or 3×1 type of offense. Coach Walker says that they change it up for their opponents, so that they can play to their strengths. On defense, they like to run a 3-4, where they can be very multiple up front. They can switch from even to odd fronts really well, and this helps them match their opponent’s personnel.

The future of this program is looking strong for the Cougars. Having a set community helps out in any part of Texas, where they do not have a whole lot of room to expand. Landlocked by tough districts, the kids at Franklin High School understand that they need to work hard in order to have success on Friday nights. Coach Walker is proud of the future of this program, and he knows that his kids will always be competing and working hard to keep them in the hunt for championships.
