McKinley v St Amant

In this week’s matchup, we saw the McKinley Panthers take on the St. Amant Gators in Geismar, Louisiana. McKinley took the ball first and started on their 20 yard line. After a drive resulting in only one first down, McKinley was forced to punt. Starting with the ball at midfield, the Gators were able to get two chunk runs before Cole Poirrer threw a perfect backside fade for a 30 yard touchdown. McKinley got the ball back and was able to get a first down off of a pass interference call, however, was still forced to punt after three plays. Getting the ball back at their own 39 yard line, St. Amant was spreading around the ball to all their players. They put together a solid seven play drive resulting in a 6 yard touchdown run for Joshua Morrise. With the score now 15-0 starting the 2nd quarter, McKinley got the ball back on their own 20. Two bad snaps in three plays resulted in a McKinley safety making the score 17-0 at this point.

Off the ensuing punt, St. Amant was able to get a great return and start with the ball on McKinley’s 19 yard line. After three plays, Joshua Morrise was able to get his second rushing touchdown of the game. After another McKinley punt, St. Amant started with the ball on their own 27 yard line. Wasting no time, the Gators decided to air it out to senior receiver Noah Louque who took the pass forty-three yards to McKinley’s 29. Two plays later, St. Amant was able to Cole Poirrier was able to find D’Andre Taylor for a 27 yard connection and a 1st and goal on the 2 yard line. Poirrer was able to punch this in for another touchdown making the score 31-0 with 6 minutes left in the 2nd. On the ensuing drive, a McKinley fumble gave St. Amant the ball back on McKinley’s 21 yard line. The Gators waited no time to cash in on this field position, dialing up a 21 yard touchdown pass to Tanner Oliver.

St. Amant started off the second half with possession. In six plays, Fredrick Turner single handedly brought the Gator offense 80 yards down the field for the touchdown. The score now 45-0, the McKinley offense started on their own 27 yard line. On the second play of this drive, Derrius Price was able to find Tyler Johnson across the middle for a 77 yard touchdown pass, making the score 45-6. Now on a running clock, the game went by rather quickly. On St. Amant’s next possession, they were able to put together a solid nine play drive resulting in a touchdown. The score now 52-6, McKinley tried to get a drive going but they could not get past the strong Gator defense. Returning the punt to McKinley’s 15 yard line, St. Amant started with great field position once again. Two plays into this drive they were able to get another rushing touchdown making the final score, 59-6.
