LSU’S GREEDY WILLIAMS NAMED TO FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICA TEAM

BATON ROUGE – Greedy Williams added another honor to his list of 2017 accomplishments as the LSU rookie earned a spot on the Football Writers Association of American Freshman All-America team, the organization announced on Monday.

Williams, a redshirt freshman from Shreveport, led the Southeastern Conference in interceptions with six. He also led the league in passes defended with 17. Williams started every game at cornerback for the Tigers and wrapped up his first season of action at LSU with 38 tackles.

The FWAA Freshman All-America honor is the second national award for Williams as he was also named third team All-America by the Associated Press. Williams was named first team All-SEC by the media and was a second team All-SEC selection by the league’s coaches.

The FWAA Freshman All-America Team was started in 2001 and Williams becomes the ninth LSU player to earn a spot on the prestigious squad. Past Tigers on the team include: OL Will Clapp (2015), All-Purpose Leonard Fournette (2014), P Brad Wing (2011), CB Tyrann Mathieu (2010), OL Ciron Black (2006), RB Justin Vincent (2003), DB LaRon Landry (2003), and OL Andrew Whitworth (2002).
