High School Football Recruiting: TCA Baton Rouge

Josh Sibley played football for approximately thirteen years. He is now a scout with Louisiana Gridiron Football and is currently scouting high school level talent throughout Louisiana. He hopes to help recruits reach their full potential and get to that next level of play.

The Church Academy (TCA) is located in Baton Rouge, LA. Last season they won one game, but they had tremendous issues at the quarterback position, having four different starters throughout the season.

Michael Kennedy

JR WR/DB 2017-09-05 16.10.12-2.jpg

Height: 5.11

Weight: 155

1 Star Prospect

Positives

  • Good hands, makes catches in traffic, isn’t brought down by initial tacklers
  • Works back to the ball on QB scrambles

Negatives

  • Bulk
  • Technique

Overall

Michael has good route running ability, but tends to catch ball into his body. Has some speed to break away from defenders. Maybe good at DIII level. Here is a link  https://www.hudl.com/profile/5363447/michael-kennedy

Darrel Vessel

JR WR/DB

Height: 5.11

Weight: 145

1 Star Prospect

Positives

  • Uses his speed to make up for what he lacks in technique
  • Attacks ball while in the air

Negatives

  • Timid about tackling ball carriers, will let them run past so he can tackle them from behind
  • Needs to add bulk to frame

Overall

Darrel does flash speed at times, but with his undersized frame will be at a DIII school. Here is a link http://www.hudl.com/profile/7489615/darrel-vessel

Kelvin Smith

JR OT/DE

Height: 6.02

Weight: 255

2 Star Prospect

Positives

  • Has good size and uses that to his advantage

Negatives

  • Slow initial get off
  • Lacks Consistency

Overall

Kelvin has good size and strength, but lacks hand speed and a motor to set the edge. Could possible be at a DII or DIII school. Here is a link http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/kelvin-smith/WX_vlAzYEea-8KA2nzwbTA/videos.htm

Trent Abbott

JR WR

Height: 6.0

Weight: 150

1 Star Prospect

Positives

  • Has good hands, makes catches away from body
  • Will win 50/50 balls over DB’s

Negatives

  • Very lean frame, needs to add bulk

Overall

Trent has excellent hands and a nose for the first down marker. He will need to add more weight this season. Possible DIII prospect. Here is a link http://www.hudl.com/profile/9564059/trent-abbott
