Basket of Hope is a 501©3 Nonprofit organization which began in 1995 in St. Louis, MO and serves over 50 hospitals nationwide. Phoenix Children’s Hospital has been the recipient of many Basket of Hope visits thanks to Kurt Warner, Tony Dungy, and many other NFL players and coaches. Basket of Hope has been a featured charity by the NFL during the Super Bowl for many years. Kurt Warner’s First Things First Foundation helped to launch the Basket of Hope in Phoenix and Louisiana over 10 years ago.
The LSU Head Coach, Ed Orgeron and his wife Kelly have been delivering Basket of Hope gifts in Louisiana for some time and have discovered the incredible impact the program has on the seriously ill children and parents in their local hospitals. They are leading LSU into history by launching the first Collegiate Bowl Basket of Hope event. Thanks to their sponsorship along with the national sponsors of Hasbro, JBloom, Naeir, Feed the Children, and donations from many other businesses and individuals, over 266 children and parents will be receiving personal visits and a Basket of Hope for the sick child and siblings along with a Basket of Hope Tote for the parents. The children will enjoy toys, games, craft and educational items, stuffed animals, puzzles and more! Parents love being included in the gift and will receive items to nourish them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. They will also be providing many LSU themed items in the baskets.
The baskets and totes will be assembled at a packing party by LSU volunteers in Phoenix on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and will be personally delivered to patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital by LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron, wife Kelly, LSU football players, cheerleaders and mascot, Mike the Tiger! Thanks to the new Basket of Hope Executive Director of Phoenix, Tim Claiborne, the program will continue to provide regular deliveries and personal visits to the patients of Phoenix Children’s in the future.
