Madison Prep cruise by Glen Oaks 48-12; improving their record to 6-3 on the season

In week 9 of Louisiana high school football, the Madison Prep Chargers faced off against the Glen Oaks Panthers in tonight’s Thursday night matchup. Madison Prep is coming off a loss to a tough opponent in the Warren Easton Fighting Eagles. Madison entered the game with a record of 5-3 on the season. The Glen Oaks Panthers are coming off a loss as well to the U-High Cubs, entering the game with a 2-7 record on the season. 

Madison Prep took over the game immediately as junior running back Tony Lewis opened the game with a huge 85 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. After forcing Glen Oaks to a 3 and out, Tony Lewis put the Chargers in Panthers territory after back-to-back first down runs. Lewis’ 25 yard run would lead into a 21 yard passing touchdown from quarterback Tylan Johnson to receiver Hezekiah Dantlzer. The Chargers were not done scoring in the first quarter, as junior running back Keilan Sherman found the endzone for another Charger touchdown. 

As the Charger’s defense forced Glen Oaks to another 3 and out, the Chargers would take over in Panthers territory. Following a first down pickup by sophomore receiver Semaj Pierre, quarterback Tylan Johnson would find receiver David Jones on a 25 yard screen pass for a touchdown. That touchdown would make the score, 27-0 with less than 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter. 

The Panthers would put some points on the board after junior running back Na’Ryan Delone found the end zone for a Glen Oaks touchdown. The Charger’s would find themselves in great field position after the return by receiver David Jones. Quarterback Tylan Johnson found his receiver, Semaj Pierre on back-to-back first down completions. Following a penalty on the Panther’s defense, Johnson rolled out the pocket and took it in the endzone himself for a Charger touchdown, giving Johnson his third touchdown of the game. 

In the second quarter, The Panthers would find themselves in a 4th and long situation in their own territory, following a holding penalty on Glen Oaks. Chargers’ defensive lineman Jonathan Profit blocked the punt attempt by the Panthers, giving the Chargers another touchdown to make the score 41-6. The Chargers’ defense would force the Panthers to another 3 and out, giving the ball back to the red hot Charger offense. Following back-to-back first down runs by running back Keilan Sherman, Sherman punched in his second touchdown of the game on a 20 yard run. Sherman’s touchdown would make the score 48-6 with about 3 minutes remaining in the first half. 

After halftime, the red hot Charger offense slowed down, both teams struggled to get anything really going in the second half. Glen Oaks offense marched down field and scored with about :30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Madison Prep would go on to win 48-12. 

As the Chargers’ improve to 6-3 on the season, they will finish up the regular season next week against Collegiate. The last regular season game will be Madison’s senior night, next Friday, November 4th at 7 pm. The Panthers will end their regular season next Thursday, November 3rd against Holy Savior Menard.
