Lane Devillier(#77) is the epitome of a quiet storm. Smart, humble, and a force to be reckoned with on and off the football field. Throughout his three seasons as the starting right tackle for the Eunice Bobcats, Lane has maintained a 3.8 GPA as an honor student off the field, while earning 1st team All-District/All-Parish on the field. This season Lane was apart of the team that won the State Championship, it had been 36 years since the city of Eunice and the Bobcats seen this phenomenon. Throughout his love for fishing and hunting, Lane learned one of the most valuable lessons that were essential to his success on the field, which is patience. Patience is key because you have to wait for the right moment to make the big plays that can overall benefit your team as a whole. His love for the game of football even inspired his little sister to become an athletic trainer for the team. He has a certain energy about him that uplifts and encourages all of those around him. Lane Devillier exceeds the expectations of being a great football player, teammate, and leader.
At what age did you start playing football and why?
My interest in football did not begin until I was in the 7th grade. My father thought it would be something that I would like, and also most of my friends were playing football as well. Football turned out to be a sport that I enjoyed playing.
At what point during your football career did you know you had the abilities to play on the collegiate level?
The knowledge of my abilities to play on the collegiate level came from those surrounding me. My parents, coaches, and a host of others have always seen that my talents had the ability to go to the next level.
How have the fundamentals that you have learned in football helped you in your everyday life?
Throughout the course of me playing football, I have learned that football is a team sport. Being that it is a team sport means you all have one goal that you want to achieve and everyone has a role in accomplishing that goal. In life, you will always have to work around and/ or with others to achieve goals that you may have in common.
What is one word that describes you and why?
The one word that would describe me would be determined. Regardless, of what the situation is I am going to do what I need to do to get the job done. No matter if that is on the field or off.
When watching film how do you critique yourself to improve your skills?
When watching film to critique myself I make sure to pay attention to the small detail. Little bits of detail makes up the bigger picture. I analysis what could I do to get faster, lower, or how to get a better angle to make the tackle better.
What could you bring to a college football team that they do not already have?
I believe that I can be an asset to a college football team as being a leader. I am a quiet leader, I more so lead by example than by telling others what to do. Leading by example sets the standard for how to be the best football player you can be while being the best teammate you can be as well.
If I were to go to your High School and ask one of your teachers to describe Lane Devillier to me, what would their response be in your opinion?
My teachers would describe me as a quiet, smart, and respectable individual. I mainly keep to myself while in classes, because my main goal is to complete my assignments.
How has football taught you how to overcome adversity?
Football has taught me to never quit no matter what the situation is. You have to give 110% and go above and beyond because you are not playing the game just for yourself you are also playing for the other 10 young men on the field. The same concept can be applied in the real world, just with a different scenario.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My biggest inspiration would be my parents and coaches. They push me day in and day out so that I can reach my max potential to be the best football player I can be. Also, my mom is my biggest fan always encouraging me and believing in me.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years and why?
I have not fully decided on the path that I would like to take. However, in 10 years I could see myself working a blue collar job such as welding. A job that is very intricate and hands-on, possibly being a manager within the industry.
