The Colonels Defeat the Huskies 41-20

The Nicholls State Colonels are reaching the end of their regular season, with an overall record of 5-3, they traveled to Houston Texas. Where they competed against, fellow Southland Conference team Houston Baptist. The Colonels are 4-2 in their conference which makes them number 3 overall. While the Huskies are looking to make this their first conference win of the season. Both teams will be looking to compete and add another add another victory to their lists. The Colonels scored reigned victorious this round, scoring 41 points over the Huskies 20 points. Leading the game all four quarters. The Colonels started off the game with aggression and attitude to keep themselves going during the game. The Huskies were unable to get points on the board until the 3rdquarter, which definitely helped them gain confidence during the second half of the game.  The Colonels pretty much lead the game in every aspect of the game in regards to rushing attempts, rushing yards, first downs and receptions.

At the beginning of the first quarter the Colonels forced a 3 and out, and kicker Lorran Fonseca scored the first 3 points for the Colonels. Reaching a new school record, Fonseca’s field goal attempt was from 56. After that the Colonels were able to keep that same momentum going as they ranked up big points in the first quarter. Running back Kendall Bussey rushed for 4 yards to the HBU0 and scored the first TD of the game as Lorran Fonseca completed the field goal attempt again. Kendall Bussey has made 4 TDs since the season started. With the score being 10-0 the colonels began to pull away from the Huskies and stretch the lead. The lead got bigger once the second quarter hit, with great plays from both offense and defense. There were a lot of players that stood out on both teams.  Chase Fourcade, lead the game in passing yards for both teams with a total of 279 yards passing. Fourcade also scored two touchdowns to help his team towards a victory. Also helping the team out on the offensive side was Dami Jeanpiere with 7 receptions for 96 yards and 1 punt return. Dai’Jean Dixon is also one of the top leaders with 5 receptions and 74 yards and he also scored a TD. One of those TD he scored in the last 14 seconds of the second quarter.

Khristian Mims lead the team in tackles with a total of 8. While his teammate Pittman followed with 6 tackles. On the Huskie side of the ball Colton Manning was the top leader for tackles racking up a total of 13 tackles along with Blanco who also had 13 tackles. Sully Laiche stepped up his game this evening as he got a total of 3 sacks for a total of 26 yards. The Colonels will be traveling back to Louisiana where they will be getting ready to compete against The SFA Jacks. Nicholls is asking that all fans come out to help support them and help them finish the regular season as strong as possible.
