DITR: Kameron Thomas

One of the standouts from the first Gridiron Football Elite Camp of the season at Woodlawn High School was Zachary High School running back Kameron Thomas, who out leaped the rest of the competition after having the biggest long jump of the camp at 10 feet. That and also having a great performance in competition showed why he is one of the top upcoming senior running backs in the Baton Rouge area. According to Thomas, his performance shows what happens when hard work and dedication comes together.

“It feels great to see some of my hard work pay off. There is still room for improvement, but this does allow me to be more explosive.”

Although Thomas was one of the top performers at the Woodlawn camp, there are also some areas to his game that he admits could improve on.

“I feel like I did great at the camp. I could improve on being more aggressive and I need to improve on making those 25 yard runs into touchdowns.”

Kameron Thomas has shown to be very modest in acknowledging what he could do to help better his game, but the 5’10, 181 pound running back with 4.59/40 speed has a lot of positive attributes.

“My biggest strength is my ability to see what is going on at all times and know what’s around me.”

The Zachary running back’s vision allowed him to have 657 all-purpose yards including 623 of those yards on the ground in 2022. The Broncos offense still was one of the best in the state with the help of the hard running of Thomas, but in the end, the Broncos came up a game short of accomplishing their goal of having back-to-back state championships.

“The team was greatly disappointed and surprised what happened. This motivates me to shake back for those guys next year because I’ve been playing football with them since 2011.”

Being a part of one of the state’s biggest football powerhouses led by head coach David Brewerton, the Broncos have won four state championships since 2015 and because of that, Thomas knows what it takes to pull one’s own weight for the overall success of the program.

“I think the key to having a successful program like this is trusting the process.”

As one of the leaders for the 2023 Broncos’ football team and with the offense having to replace its quarterback Eli Holstein, who is now at Alabama, Thomas is going to be one of the key playmakers in order for the Broncos to have success this season. He is looking to have a great senior season, but he is not waiting until the fall to have one as he is putting in all the hard work starting a couple of weeks ago at Woodlawn.

As of now, Thomas has not received any offers, but he is hoping all that changes with a great summer.

“The recruitment has been decent. I have a lot of communication with a lot of DI coaches. I haven’t received any offers yet. There are a countless amount of schools I’ve been in contact with.”

“My plans this summer are visiting many schools.”

There is one school that the athletic Zachary running back wants to take his talents to and that school is only 18 miles away.

“I grew up watching LSU. That’s my hometown so I had to support them.”

What will also help in the recruiting process is that he is also invited to play in the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game based on his last camp performance. Since Thomas was five years old, football is all that he has known and now, this year will be the time to show colleges why he is their guy.

“I should be recruited because I’m one of a kind and I bring energy and love everywhere.”
