Joshua Jones is a name that will be forever used when talking about Louisiana High School football. Senior, running back, from Berwick High School, broke and set the new Louisiana record for the most rushing yards in a single game. He is a hardworking and dedicated individual with a great personality. Just alone from last season, Joshua had 2021 yards averaging 202.1 yards per game. Also, he had a total of 28 touchdowns, 24 of them rushing and the other 4 receiving. These numbers are just a snippet of the many things he has to offer to a college football team. First one to everything and last one to leave. When he puts his helmet on, he says it is time to show all the hard work that has been put in to lead up to game days. He is the true definition of actions speaks louder than words. A quality that cannot be taught, something that is just in you.
When did you start playing football?
I started playing football in the 5th grade, I have always loved the sport and seeing guys do what they love made me want to try.
What aspect of football has taught you how to overcome adversity?
Football has taught me a lot about overcoming adversity. The main thing it has taught me is when you’re under pressure you can rise to the challenge or fold. The decisions that you make in those circumstances ultimately dictate who you are as a person. The person that I am, I chose to rise to every challenge because I learn from these challenges that help me grow as a person.
How has football helped you in other aspects of your life?
Football has taught me how to be competitive. I use that competitiveness on the track and in life. If you want something good in life you have to work for it, nothing will be handed to you.
If you could describe yourself using one word, what would it be and why?
Humble, because I let my actions on the football field speak for themselves. Also, I am very respectful, I was taught that respect is earned now given. Through my hard work and determination, I think I exemplify that because I am always willing to go the extra mile and it shows on the field.
What has been your greatest achievement thus far in your football career?
When I broke the Louisiana state record for most rushing yards in a single game. We were playing North Vermilion High School and I rushed for approximately 617 yards. I never thought I could break a record. It was never on my mind. I just went out there and played each snap to the best of my abilities, then they announced I broke a record.
What could you bring to a college team that they do not already have in your opinion?
The fact that I am a team player. No matter what I am always encouraging my teammates to be the best they can be on and off the field.
What could you take that you learned from football that will help you become a successful businessman in the future?
In football, things aren’t going to always go your way. That is like your going up against one of the top defenses, they are going to still be there and be great but as an offense, you have to make a way to score so that your team can ultimately win the game. The same goes with being a businessman, you can’t run from the bad times you have to face time and figure out a way to get through them.
What has your senior football season taught you about yourself that will help you better prepare to play football in college?
It has taught me that no dream is too big. I would have never dreamt of breaking a record, but because of my hard work and endless dedication day in and day out I achieved something that I considered far beyond my reach.
