Doug E Viltz is a senior running back for powerhouse Teurlings Catholic High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. After a nice season last year that was cut short by injury, where Viltz accounted for 327 rushing yards, 6 touchdowns, and 5 kick returns for 186 total yards, he looks to pick right back up where he left off for his final high school season. Even with him only playing close to half of the season, his talent still earned him 2nd team All-District honors. His elite acceleration and open-field moves make him a tough task to tackle for opposing defenders and a fun athlete to watch.
Last season, the Rebels made it to the semifinals and ended with a 9-4 record, losing to Lafayette Christian Academy, who would lose to St. Thomas More in the state championship. Teurlings Catholic lost a regular season game to STM, with a final score of 35-34 in a nailbiter. This showed the Rebels and fans across Louisiana that they could be a state championship contender under the right circumstances. This was their second season in a row losing to LCA in the semifinal before a matchup vs STM, who has won the past 2 state championships. They are right there and are looking to make that final push over the edge this season.
After a 3-0 start to the new season and taking down some huge teams such as reigning state champion Opelousas in week 1 and a 2-1 top-25 ranked Sam Houston team, the Rebels are looking destined for an outstanding season. Viltz has personally started this season off on fire with a 2-touchdown performance in week 1 that won him the SBLive’s Louisiana High School Player of the Week. In week 2, he would add 2 more touchdowns to his season total and rush for just under 250 yards. He has already racked up over 400 yards this season and is well on his way to being a thousand-yard rusher. They have some huge district matchups coming up, including this week’s Game of the Week vs Westgate, who is undefeated and fresh off of a win over LCA.
While he has received an offer from Graceland University, his recruitment is still open and he is looking to gain more attention with his performance on the field this season. He is also a hard worker in the classroom with a 3.5 GPA to go along with his exceptional on-field skills.

Who is your favorite NFL/College player that you try to model your game after?
My favorite player would have to be Ezekiel Elliot.
What is your favorite thing about playing RB?
My favorite things about playing running back is making defenders miss and scoring touchdowns.
What has been your favorite HS game of your career and what made it that?
My favorite game of my high school career was against Westgate, my sophmore year, because that’s when I showcased what I really could do on the Varsity level.
What was going for you and the team in week 2 rushing for 400 and you rushing for 250 and 2 TDs by yourself?
The whole week we prepared our game plan and everyone got out there and executed when it was time.
What motivates you on the field to play your hardest every snap?
Knowing that football can be taken away from you at anytime. So every time I step out on the field, I give it all I have and have fun playing and enjoying the game I love.
How nice did it feel to get the win in the season opener vs Opelousas, especially with them coming off of a state championship season?
It felt good to win knowing that we were being doubted, but we never doubted ourselves because we put in the work necessary to win.
You had 2 career high games back to back to start the season and you guys are 3-0 with some big wins so far, what are some season goals? They can be personal or teamm goals.
A personal goal is challenging myself to rush for 1,000 yards, but my personal/team goal is to make it to and win a state championship this year.
How has your recruiting process been and if you aren’t committed, what would be your dream school to play for?
It has been slow, I think I’ve just been underlooked. I don’t have a dream school. I just would like to go to a school where I am able to receive an academic or athletic scholarship.
