DITR: Ashton Levi

At the end of a long two-day weekend 7 on 7 tournament at Southern University, one player stood tall with the MVP Trophy after leading the CM Naturals to a tournament championship, and that player is Bogalusa High School QB Ashton Levi. Despite garnering all the accomplishments and leaving with the hardware, Levi knows that it takes more than his effort to win it all.

“What led to that performance was having a great coach and great guys to play with and we had each other’s backs on every snap.”

Winning is a part of Levi’s DNA as he has led the Lumberjacks to a 15-5 overall record the last two seasons including a district championship this past season. Playing for Cyril Crutchfield, Levi has helped bring a winning tradition back to Bogalusa, Louisiana.

“I give credit to Coach Crutchfield, my teammates, family, supporters, and fans, but I am proud of the way that I am helping change the culture of my school.”

The 6’0, 190 pound quarterback has also put up a lot of big numbers over his incredibly productive prep career as he has completed 278 of 477 passes for 5,041 yards and 54 touchdowns averaging over 280 yards passing per game including 2,534 yards and 26 touchdowns thrown last season.

After a very strong junior season, Levi would love nothing more than to keep the positive momentum going and end his career on a high note while at the same time, continuing to be the humble person that got him to this point.

“My goal for my senior season is to dominate every game and no sir, I don’t think of myself as a legend yet because there were some great players to come from Bogalusa High School at all positions. I don’t consider myself as a legend, but the people may do.”

Levi might not be the biggest quarterback, but he is a great athlete that can move around the pocket and also has the pocket presence to pass first. Not only that, but he can throw a pretty deep ball as well. In the classroom, Levi has a 3.5 GPA and his good grades help him become a great student of the game.

“Watching a lot of film and learning our scheme to the fullest and being a dual threat are my strengths. I want to continue to learn team personnel and learning player personnel.”

Although not 6’5, Levi does not let that affect him as his game is so similar to small, but playmaking quarterbacks that are just as dazzling to watch including the likes of Bryce Young and Russell Wilson.

Right now, Levi has received only one offer from John Melvin University, but he has gotten interest from other programs including Southeastern, ULL, Tulane, and Louisiana Tech. After winning on the 7 on 7 circuit and having record breaking seasons at Bogalusa High School, he is hoping that other schools will show their faith in him just like the teams he has played for have done throughout his career.

“I grew up watching Clemson and LSU, but I will play for any program that takes a chance on me.”

Kicking off the offseason in a big way, Levi hopes that this upcoming season is more of the same while showing more colleges that his game could translate at the next level.

“They should recruit me because of my character and I’m a student of the game. I will put the work in.”

That hard work is paying off and Levi will continue to put the work in to help the Lumberjacks swing for it all in 2023.
