Diamond In The Rough: Kylyn Lewis

Kylyn Lewis is a class of 2021 defensive end out of Ferriday High School in Ferriday, Louisiana. Lewis is 6’2″ and weighs 215 pounds. He is a quick and disruptive player. His motor is excellent and he never takes a play off. Lewis lives in his opponent’s backfield and he also helped lead his team to win the 2A State Championship in 2019. He is also on the Basketball team at Ferriday High and has a 4.0 GPA.

How would you describe Ferriday’s season so far?

I was kind of down about our loss against Mangham. It was our Senior Game and I didn’t want to lose that game. Other than that, we are 5-1 now and it’s only up from here!

Did you have any specific goals you wanted to achieve coming into the season? If so, how is that going so far?

One of my goals is to win another State Championship. So far, it’s going well and I am putting in work everyday and night to achieve my goals. I’m ready for the playoffs now.

What’s your favorite thing about your position?

Playing defensive end, I love that you have to find the ball every time.

How do you think your coaches would describe you?

My coaches would say that I am a hard worker and I listen very well. I am always on time.

What has football taught you about yourself or life?

Football has taught me a lot. Being on time is one big thing I have learned. This is just like a job. Being on time is like being on time to work, while showing up late is like being late to work.

What’s your favorite thing about playing football in Louisiana?

My favorite thing about playing football in Louisiana is that you get to play against all types of players. Also, playing in the Superdome is a very exciting experience for all Louisiana players that get to experience it.

How did you even get into football?

I got into football when I was around six years old. I just never stopped playing since.

What would a college team be getting out of you?

A college team would get the best out of me at all times.

You’re also on the Basketball team at Ferriday! What position do you play and how do you think that position helps you on the Football field?

I play small forward. It helps stay in shape as I go straight to basketball when football season is over. I build my wind up for the next football season.

What hobbies do you have outside of sports?

Outside of sports, I enjoy DJing. I also play games at my cousin’s house, we play the Xbox and Playstation a lot.

What is one thing you could not go a day without?

I can not go a day without my cellphone!
