Tonight’s matchup featured two rival teams, the Denham Springs Yellowjackets and the Walker High Wildcats. It was a hard fought game between the two teams. Battling through heavy rain and wet conditions both teams gave their all in a game that came down to the very last play. The Denham Springs Yellow Jackets were able to pull through to secure the victory in a tough matchup.
Starting off the game the Wildcats were first to hit the scoreboard. The Wildcats were able to complete a deep pass to their wide-receiver on a busted coverage by the Yellowjackets. This would put the Wildcats up by 7 early in the game. After time passed and a few possessions by the Yellowjackets, the Wildcats would get the ball back and go on to score again. This time it was a hard rush by their running back. This would be the only points allowed in the first half by both teams. The Wildcats started slow in this game but had a plan coming out after halftime.
After a slow start to the game the Yellowjackets came out with their own plan to find their way in the end zone. The offense was led by quarterback Jerry Horne. Horne would help the team march down the field on the first drive of the 3rd quarter. Jerry Horne would go on to find his way in the end zone to help put his team down by one possession.
The defense for the Yellowjackets showed up in the second half not allowing anymore points to be scored. After a few stops by the defense, the Yellowjackets were able to find their way into the end zone again, this time by a rush from their back-up quarterback De’Jean Golmond. This was one of two touchdowns scored by Golmond. He would later go on and score again on another rush.
With the game coming down to the wire, Walker had one more chance to tie the game, but was unable to do so as the Yellowjackets defense were able to hold them on the 25 yard line. It was a hard fought battle between these two teams, where it felt as if any team had the chance to make a impactful play that could save the game. In the end the Yellowjackets were able to secure the victory and add another win to the column.
