The Owls Outlast The Tigers In Slidell

The Owls flew into LV McGinty Stadium to face off against the Slidell Tigers. On a very muggy night the Owls outlasted the Tigers in this district matchup 31-21.

Slidell would receive the opening kickoff and return it to the 41 yard line.

The Tigers would face an early 3rd and 5 in their opening drive, but a Chalmette offsides penalty would give Slidell a free first down. The Tigers would not be able to take advantage as they would a 4th down and have to punt the ball away.

Both teams starting the game off sloppy, having to use timeouts 11:09 in the first quarter.

Chalmette’s first drive would start at their own 31 yard line and it would end very swiftly for the Owls. Slidell would force a punt. However the Tigers would muff the punt and the Owls would come away with the ball at the 33 yard line with 9:34 to go in the first quarter.

Slidell would hold Chalmette to a Field Goal, but a costly flag would bring the Owls close enough to go for it on fourth, and go for it they did. On 4th and 3 QB Breez Wilson would keep the ball for the easy first down.

With 5:38 to go in the first quarter, the Owls would swoop in and score first after a 10 yard Touchdown catch by WR Tanner Vincens. The Owls go up early with a 7-0 lead.

Slidell’s next few offensive possessions would come away empty until 11:10 to go in the second quarter. Jakwan Jones would find some space for the 25 yard run and score to put Slidell on the scoreboard. The Tigers would fail to convert the two point conversion and the Owl’s lead is now slim. 7-6 in the second quarter.

Chalmette would try to punch the ball in once again on their next possession, but the Tigers defense prevailed and held the Owls to a 30 yard Field Goal. Bringing the score to 10-6.

Slidell’s next offensive possession looked very good. QB Ricky Williams would find some space on a few plays with his legs. Then he would deal out some short passes to get Slidell going.

Later on that same drive, with 4:45 to go in the second, Ricky Williams would find TE Jeremiah Birdlow for a 26 yard Touchdown to put the Tigers ahead 14-10.

Chalmette would get the ball before the half ended, on the ensuing drive Breez Wilson is picked off in the back of the end zone by Safety Noah Dietrich, and be returned to the 31 yard line. Slidell would get the ball back with a little over a minute to go.

After the interception, Slidell’s offense would go cold and have to punt the ball away with 23 seconds left. Owls QB Breez Wilson is sacked and that is how the first half ends.

The third quarter would begin and end rather quickly. It was almost as if someone in the press box forgot to stop the clock.

Both teams to start the third would exchange a multitude of punts until Slidell figured it out. RB Jakwan Jones was the bellcow tonight for the Tigers, a 20 yard run with 3:54 left to go in the third would put the Tigers back in business.

Owls would hold the Tigers to a 4th down, but Ricky Williams worked his magic and find WR Michael Thompson for a 16 yard touchdown to put Slidell up 21-10 with 1:41 to go in the third. This would be the final time the Tigers would find the end zone tonight.

The come back was on for the Chalmette Owls. Chalmette owned the Tigers in the fourth quarter.

The Owls would look to their screen game late in the fourth to get things going, and it worked to perfection. With just 8:30 remaining in the fourth, QB Breez Wilson would slip his RB Axton Lopez the screen pass for a 16 yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 21-16.

Slidell would not get anything going on offense once again and punt the ball quickly to Chalmette with 6:18 to go. The Owls would march down the field, chewing up every ounce of clock as well. They would drive it all the way down the field to the 6 yard line. Setting up Axton Lopez for the easy walk in touchdown to put Chalmette ahead 24-21 with 1:11 left to go in the fourth.

Slidell’s special teams makes a very undisciplined mistake, allowing the Owls to recover the kickoff at the 6 yard line. The Owls would once again walk it in for a touchdown. Increasing their lead, and ensuring their victory.

Final score for this game 31-21 the Owls would be victorious.
