In fact, his senior season was his first year playing football, and Grant showed that he is capable of being a talented linebacker at the next level. With 4.6/40 speed, the first year starter looked like a veteran with 30 solo tackles, 12 assists, 1 PBU, and four sacks. He also did so in limited action as he missed a Week 2 game with a high ankle sprain.
Despite playing one season, Grant was skyrocketing up as the 13th ranked linebacker in the state. Because of his size, frame, explosiveness, and excellent display of athleticism, the Newman linebacker models his game after Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
“I modeled myself after DeMarvion Overshown in terms of explosiveness and side to side quickness and overall edge strength, I drew comparisons to him. Others also drew that comparison.”

That explosiveness and side to side quickness has translated from the basketball court to the football field as Grant has been a longtime basketball standout for the Greenies’ basketball team. For a while, he actually had basketball aspirations before getting involved with football.
“An interesting fact about myself off the field is I had basketball aspirations before I even touched a football field. My parents were so against me playing football, but I ended up having success and I see a bright future in it.”

Currently, Grant has received a preferred walk-on from South Alabama, but he has received from Louisiana Christian, LSU, Louisiana Tech, and Arizona. He is looking to make another major splash at the upcoming Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game.
“Playing in this bowl game means a lot and I’m grateful for the opportunity too. I want to get my name out there and get more recognition because I believe in my self to make it high in the next level, and I’m doing what it takes to get there. I want to make a statement for the people who simply said, I was just a basketball player.”
