Ferriday High School (Ferriday, LA) LB Lionel Scott Jr. has committed to the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game. He’s another line backer that is an absolute tackling machine.
I wrote about Lionel at length during the season in this article, but I’ll briefly revisit his strengths here as well. He’s an athletic player with a combination of power and speed that gets him to the place he needs to tackle and allows him to make that tackle consistently. He’s only 5’9″, but he plays like a much bigger player. he was 240 going into the year, but lost 30 pounds over the summer to slim down and speed up, making him a much rangier player that could make more plays on the field. Despite that loss in weight, he still plays like he’s 240 in the way that he hits people – he still brings some thump. He also has the instinct and play recognition abilities, the right head on his shoulders, in order to know where to go to make the play. He sees the ball and he gets the ball.
Lionel earned 1st team All-District honors this season, and he has shown his work off the field as well with a 3.6 GPA. He doesn’t have any offers yet, which makes him among the hungriest to earn one at the bowl game. This is one of his last chances, and he’s sure to make it count.
This is a very new experience. I’m honored and blessed to be here, just want to give thanks to God for being here.
