Week 10 Photo Gallery: Opelousas Catholic Defeats St. Edmund 56-12 to Win District 6-1A

The Opelousas Catholic Vikings (7-3) wrapped up their third straight district championship with a 56-12 win over the St. Edmund Blue Jays (7-3). The Vikings, under first year head coach Cullen Matherne, have a high scoring prolific offense that has scored over 40 points in each of their five district wins, and they ended the regular season by scoring over 50 against the Blue Jays.

The offense was clicking on all cylinder led by the Blue Jays’ dynamic trio. Senior quarterback and Ragin’ Cajuns baseball commit Mark Collins threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns plus a sixth on the ground rushing. Royce Butler scored four touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving) while putting up over 240 total yards of offense. Then, finally, there is Rowen Bergeron, who had six catches for 114 yards and a touchdown.

With the district championship, the Vikings have earned themselves a bye in the first round of the Division IV Select Playoffs as the #8 seed and will wait for the winner of #9 Ascension Catholic and #24 Central Private in the next round.

Meanwhile, the St. Edmund Blue Jays, led by head coach James Shiver and the state’s leading rusher Ke’von Johnson, will have a rematch with district rival Westminster Christian Academy (Opelousas) in the first round of the Division IV (Select) Playoffs.
