Tulane Football’s Nickerson Named to Phil Steele All-America Third Team

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane football redshirt senior cornerback Parry Nickerson was named to the Phil Steele 2017 Postseason All-America Third Team, as announced by the publication.

Tabbed first-team All-American Athletic Conference by the league’s head coaches, as well as Phil Steele, Nickerson led the conference in interceptions with six. His six picks rank tied for fourth in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision at 0.5 per game. His 14 passes defended (six interceptions and eight pass breakups) rank tied for fourth in The American and tied for 37th in the country at 1.2 per game.

In his final season wearing the Olive and Blue, Nickerson recorded 55 tackles (46 solo) and 2.0 tackles for loss to go along with his six picks. He set a career high with nine tackles at FIU, eclipsing his previous best of eight at East Carolina on Nov. 22, 2014. The Paycom Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist was also a nominee for Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team, Wuerffel Trophy and Senior CLASS Award.

The Algiers, La., native finished his career as one of the best defensive backs to ever play at Tulane with 16 career interceptions, which rank second in school history, and 31 career pass breakups, which rank third in school history. He totaled 188 tackles, with 152 of those as solo stops, to go along with 8.0 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one block.

 

Nickerson has also earned second-team All-America honors from Sports Illustrated and an All-America honorable mention by SB Nation.
