LSU was able to get the 45-20 upset victory over the number seven ranked Ole Miss Rebels with the help of some great individual performances. In fact, it was announced today that three different LSU players were given top SEC honors for their performance this past week.
The first is quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was awarded the SEC Offensive Player of the Week Award, accounted for five total touchdowns in the win over the Rebels with three coming on the ground and two coming through the air. Daniels led an offense that had 500 total yards of offense and put up 45 points on the scoreboard. Through the air, the Arizona State transfer completed 21 of 28 passes for 248 yards while adding 121 yards on the ground. Daniels became the first quarterback in LSU history to have over 200 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a game twice in one season. Also, in Saturday’s victory, he set the single season record for rushing touchdowns (9) and rushing yards by a quarterback (524) as well.

The second is defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo, who was selected as the SEC defensive lineman of the week after having a dominant performance with seven tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, two pass breakups, and a quarterback hurry. Most importantly, he was one of the catalysts in holding the Ole Miss Rebels way below their season average in running the football.

The final player that earned SEC Player of the Week honors is freshman linebacker sensation Harold Perkins, who was named SEC freshman of the week. The former five star linebacker prospect helped the Tigers pitch a shutout in the second half with five tackles, a sack, a pass breakup, and two quarterback hurries.
