The Plaquemine Green Devils is crowned District 6-4A Champions with the 13-8 win over the West Feliciana Saints

In this week 10 matchup between the Plaquemine Green Devils traveling to West Feliciana Parish to take on the West Feliciana Saints. It was a hard-fought matchup between these two teams, with being crowned the district champion being in the mind of both teams. The West Feliciana Saints came into this game being 8-1 and undefeated in district play hoping stay unbeaten and be crowned district champions. The Plaquemine Green Devils came into this game being 7-2 and 7-1 in district play and looking to gain first place in the district with a win. Last season when both of these teams faced off, the Saints were able to travel to Plaquemine and pull off a 43-22 win over the Green Devils. This season the Green Devils were looking to pull off a win and ruining the hope of the Saints being the district champs, while the Saints were looking for a repeat of last year and becoming district champions.

Both teams could not get much going offensively. There were a couple big plays by the Saints defensive line. Both defenses came to play this game by preventing any points on the opening drives by both teams. The Green Devils had a promising drive with the help from a couple Saints defensive penalties. They went into the second quarter with hopes of scoring the first points of the game.

With the Green Devils having the ball in excellent field position and hopes on scoring the first points of the game. The Saints had other plans with a big fourth down stop to prevent any Green Devil potential points. After the stop by the Saints got the ball hoping to score first but eventually their drive stalled out leaving them to punt. Following the punt, the Green Devils got the ball back pinned deep in their own endzone. The Saints defense stood tall once again and prevented the Green Devils to do anything. The Saints were able to get on the board first by getting a safety. Following the safety, the Saints gave the ball back to the Green Devils with an interception. The Green Devils were able to advantage of the turnover and score a rushing touchdown to take a 6-2 lead over the Saints. With that touchdown the Green Devils were able to take the lead and gain momentum going into halftime.

The Green Devils had momentum coming out the half and looked to increase their lead by getting the ball first after halftime. The Green Devils had hopes of scoring coming out of the half, but their big play quickly turned bad with a momentum killing fumble that was recovered by the Saints defense. The Saints looked to take advantage of the fumble recovery, but their drive stalled out and had to punt. The Green Devils got the ball and put a great drive together that was capped off with a Green Devil rushing touchdown to increase their lead going into the fourth quarter.

This game came down to the final minutes in the game. The Green Devils had momentum going into the fourth quarter with the touchdown. The Saints was putting together a promising drive that looked like potential points, but the Green Devils had other plans by forcing an interception. The Green Devils drive stalled out forcing them to give the Saints the ball back with some time coming off the clock. The Saints were desperately looking to put some points on the board with time looking slim. The Saints went into their “bags of trick” with some trickery and scoring a touchdown to shorten the deficit. Following the Saints touchdown, the Green Devils were looking to increase their lead with a field goal kick that was blocked by the Saints field goal unit. This was the situation and momentum the Saints were hoping for. With a chance to drive down the field and win the game, the Green Devil’s defense rose to the occasion and forced a costly interception for the Saints. With this interception, the Green Devils were able to milk the clock and end the game and become the District 6-4A champions.
